There is no doubt that with the state of the job market these days, many of us are looking for an extra source of income (we will avoid calling it a side hustle). While many traditional part time jobs like waiting tables and food delivery are viable options, why not do something you enjoy instead? These are favorite hobbies that can generate income - and if you’re serious about them, they can be your primary source of income as well.
Gaming
Many people live stream their gameplay on a variety of social media networks, and use those streams to generate ad revenue. If you’re serious about gaming for money, Twitch is the best option for eSports. You can even boost your Twitch streams if you purchase Twitch viewers, to give yourself a head start. Join professional tournaments, or play any of your favorite games with your buddies. You can also opt for single-player games. All you need is to keep an audience engaged and wait for the ad revenue to come rolling in.
Crafts
If you are good with crafts of any kind you can sell your art pieces online. There are several options to do this - auction off to the highest bidder on eBay, or sell at a fixed price on Etsy (eBay too). You can even set up a website to offer made-to-order pieces and accept requests from fans of your work.
Cooking
This may seem obvious, but if you’re passionate about cooking and everything related, you can easily start a YouTube channel focused on your cooking. Many of the videos you are probably already watching online started out in home kitchens with a smartphone camera and nothing fancy. There is no need to use a studio to shoot a cooking video, especially if you have a knack for it.
Writing
You don’t need to be a novelist to write and get published. There are simpler ways to practice writing, and earn money doing so. You can choose to write a blog (where you have total creative control) or try article writing for online magazines. Content creation is just like publishing a book, except that you would be doing it online. Additionally, your experience as a content creator has the potential to attract publishers which may approach you asking for a real book.
Fashion
If you know fashion, and you’re confident in your ability to dress well, try your luck at becoming an Instagram model. All you need is to hire someone who is great with photography (that can be their hobby too!) Post your photos on platforms like Instagram and Facebook, and as you attract more attention (and followers), you can find sponsors for your modelling. Additionally, you can use your photos as a way to get into affiliate marketing. Just add affiliate links to anything in your outfit in the description of your posts.
With a little creativity, and innovative thinking, anyone can turn a hobby into their job. There is no reason to spend your life bored with the job you need to make a decent living.
