A Quick FAQ Guide to Boost Mobile

Boost Mobile is a cell phone service provider. They offer pay-as-you-go pricing, which means customers are not locked into a contract. They also offer several plans to choose from so everyone can find something to fit in their budget and data needs. All of the prices and figures in this article are up-to-date as of March 2022.

Who Owns It?

Boost Mobile was founded by three friends (Craig Cooper, Kirt McMaster, and Peter Adderton) and Nextel Communications. Nexel bought out the company in 2003. In 2004, Nexel merged with Sprint, giving the Sprint Corporation of the company. Most recently, Dish Wireless bought Boost Mobile, claiming ownership since 2020.

What Are Their Data Plans?

With Boost Mobile, there are five basic cell phone plans to pick from. All of the basic plans come with data. They also all have unlimited texting and calling.

The most basic plan comes with 2 GB of data for $15 a month. Next is the 5 GB plan for $25 a month, then the 10 GB plan for $35 a month, or the Boost Unlimited plan (unlimited data) for $50 a month. However, it should be noted that some of these offers are only available to new customers. Prices may also vary by location.

Can Customers Add Extra Lines?

No matter which GB plan a customer chooses, he or she can have up to five lines (per plan). For the 2-10 GB plans, each additional phone plan will cost the same amount as the original phone line. For example, if someone is using a 2 GB plan at $15 a month, it would cost $30 for two people or $45 for three.

The pricing works a little differently for the Boost Unlimited plan. Each additional person added to the plan will pay less than the original person. For example, one person on the Boost Unlimited plan will pay $50 a month. If a second person joins the plan, he or she will only pay $40 a month. The plan keeps decreasing with every additional person; $37 for the third person, $35 for the fourth person, and $34 for the fifth person. Of course, all of these will be on one bill for the people involved in the plan to figure out how to divide up the total price between themselves.

What Add-On Services Does Boost Mobile Offer?

As a baseline, all plans will come with unlimited calling, texting, a wi-fi hot spot, and whatever amount of data the plan calls for. From there, customers can use to add more services or not. All of these add-on services will also put an additional cost on the monthly phone bill. One of the most common add-ons is more data. Customers will pay $5 for every additional GB of data they use.

Here are some of the other add-on customers can choose from, listed from lowest to highest price. Each of these prices is per month, not a one-time fee. When adding other people to the phone plan, some people may have add-ons while others do not.

        Secure wi-fi ($2)

        Boost Call Screener ($3)

        International calling and texting ($5-10)

        Privacy Premium Bundle ($6)

Location and parental control settings ($7)

If someone wants to upgrade his or her phone plan, all he or she has to do is go into the account settings on the phone and upgrade the plan from there!

Boost Mobile is one of the most popular non-contract cell phone plans in the United States. With so many ways to customize each phone plan, this service is great for people who are on a budget or who have ever-changing needs.
